NAP Board Minutes – 11 October 2022

Key Highlights:

  • Leadership & Structural Updates:
    • Board supported splitting the Learning Disability & Autism (LD&A) Board into two separate groups.
    • ASD Helping Hands officially took over management of the Norfolk Autism Partnership on 3 October.
    • Future meeting formats (in-person, virtual, or hybrid) to be determined via an anonymous questionnaire.
  • Autism short term support service Development:
    • New Autism support Service being developed for autistic adults without a learning disability.
    • Recruitment underway for an Operational Autism Lead.
    • Members encouraged to share recruitment details within their networks.
  • Safeguarding & Policy Updates:
    • Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board (NSAB) held a Progress Summit on Safeguarding Adult Reviews.
    • Key recommendations include ethical commissioning, increased scrutiny of care providers, and improved oversight.
    • Changes proposed to Mental Health Act to improve regulation of care homes and limit unjust detentions.
    • NHS Norfolk implementing new standards for Safe & Wellbeing Reviews.
  • Board Independence & Community Engagement:
    • New staff member hired to run the Learning Disability Partnership.
    • Five affiliated adult social groups now operating in Norfolk, with plans to expand.
  • Other Key Announcements:
    • Board thanked departing members, including Andrew (Partnership Coordinator) and Tracey McLean.
    • New meeting schedule to be arranged by ASD Helping Hands.

  • Draft and send a letter of support for splitting the LD&A Board.
  • Continue development of the Autism short term support service.
  • Assess Board members’ meeting format preferences via questionnaire.
