Key Highlights:

  • Leadership & Membership Updates:
    • Trevor Key confirmed as Autism Co-chair.
    • Amanda Dunn (Vice Co-chair) attended as an observer.
  • Working Group Updates:
    • Engagement:
      • New independent NAPB website developed, seeking feedback before full launch.
      • Buddy Scheme progressing—six members signed up; others encouraged to join.
    • Workforce Development:
      • Pilot eLearning & day training program submitted for review.
      • Issues with video content in training materials—alternative resources being explored.
      • Feedback request sent to ADASS members regarding training.
    • Data Collection:
      • Autism Data Dashboard in progress, members asked to submit data by 30 July 2020.
    • Complaints & Compliments Process:
      • No expressions of interest received for a dedicated working group.
      • New approach: Complaints to be handled on a case-by-case basis by a pool of volunteers.
  • SEND Transformation & COVID-19 Impact:
    • SEND Inspection Findings:
      • Three key weaknesses identified:
        1. Communication & co-production gaps
        2. Limited support for 18-25 age group
        3. Delays & issues with EHCP processes
      • Reinspection scheduled for February 2022.
      • NAPB will support SEND transformation efforts.
    • COVID-19 Autism Survey Findings:
      • 161 responses gathered, identifying key challenges autistic individuals faced.
      • Further discussion & analysis scheduled for the next meeting.
  • Independent Review & Ombudsman Decision:
    • Awaiting Local Government Ombudsman ruling on complaints related to the Autism Norfolk Forum.
  • Other Key Announcements:
    • Online autism training course now available for NCC staff.
    • Board members encouraged to promote training completion.

Next Steps:

  • Launch the independent NAPB website after feedback.
  • Continue Autism Data Dashboard development.
  • Provide further analysis of the COVID-19 survey results.
  • Support SEND transformation efforts ahead of reinspection.
